A couple weeks ago, one of the people in my department came up to me and if I knew how to do a Gantt chart, obviously unaware that we had the best Gantt chart software available. I gladly gave her the information she needed to be able to run the software, and after she thanked me abundantly, I let her know that the reason that we had that software in the first place was because I had not known how to do a Gantt chart not very long ago.
This was just about a year ago, just before she was hired on here, and I had been assigned to a huge project that needed this type of chart on a deadline, and all of the people in my department who knew how to do it were working on something else and couldn't help me. I guessed that it would be in my best interest to find a few examples of a Gantt chart online in order to see what I would be doing and get some ideas on how to make it easier for me.
It was during this search that I came upon a website that sold Gantt chart software that looked to be the perfect solution to all of my problems. I spent a long time on the Internet reading everything I could find about this software, and I found some reviews that were fantastic, and pretty soon, I felt totally positive that it would be a great move for the company to buy this software.
It took a startlingly short amount of time to get the approval for me to buy the software in behalf of the company and before long; I was installing it and getting all of the relevant data ready for me to create the chart. It was right then that I was told that a project timeline was due within the next day, but before I freaked, I remembered that there was project timeline software available from the same company I had just used.
Using this new software, I was able to create the needed documents in a timely manner, and they looked completely polished and professional, much more so than if I had tried to do them without the software. My efforts toward our project were highly praised, and I became the go to guy for Gantt charts, which led me to giving advice to our younger team members.
